Christians and the election

It amazes me how so many Christians think that their political views are "the" Christian views. Now, don't get me wrong, all of us vote according to the way we think our beliefs should be lived out in the political sphere. But there is a big difference in voting you conscience and thinking that your way is the only right way. When you think about this presidential election, Christians have a choice between two candidates who both claim to be Christians. Like the rest of the church, they don't agree on every issue, but they have in common a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. At the very least, we to ought admit and acknowledge that truth. And yet, people on both sides are accusing the other candidate of not being a very good Christian - again it all comes down to disagreeing on certain issues. Personally, I think both candidates are Christians, and honest men who are trying to do what they think is right. I think one is more right than the other, but I would be OK with either candidate being elected from the perspective of the Christian faith. They are my brothers in Christ, and I am going to pray for both of them and for our country.

Tropical Medicine

As someone who reads a lot of books, both fiction and non-fiction, I am constantly looking for and finding new authors, some that no one has ever heard of. Not long ago, I had the pleasure of doing just that. This particular author is my cousin (everybody has a cousin in Miami). He is in the process of writing a great book about Jake McBride, who is a writer himself. Jake burns down his house in Ft. Myers after his girlfriend leaves him and heads for Key West, like many great writers have done before. He hangs out at the Green Parrot, and eventually he gets caught up in a mystery involving some undiscovered Frida Kahlo paintings. It really is a great book, and I hope that one day it gets published. It never ceases to amaze though how people who can't write very well often end up getting published, while some of the truly talented ones never get noticed. Anyway, can't wait for the end of the book, can't wait to find out what happens to Jake and Melissa.
